On a rainy Sunday, we hosted 12 freshman and sophomore students from the Lincoln Land Community College Agriculture program. The students were on a field trip all the way from Springfield, Illinois to learn about the variety of agricultural practices throughout the United States, and this recent excursion focused on the Pacific Northwest. The Lincoln Land Community College has the newest and most advanced agriculture education facilities in Illinois, so we were humbled to have the students visit a small, highly diversified organic farm to contrast the land of corn of soybeans. This was a great opportunity for the students to learn a little about sustainable organic agriculture and the many possibilities that are available to them in farming. We also bragged a little about the importance of being good land stewards, which felt great.
